Several inferences have converged recently on the renewed conclusion that vacuum
electromagnetism is three dimensional, not transverse as in the received view. The problem
of longitudinal electromagnetic field components in vacuo has been put forward by
Majorana [1], Dirac [2], Oppenheimer [3] and Wigner [4], who...

Electromagnetism in Gravitational Collapse
- Skinfill, Craig Ernest 1975-
A numerical approach to including electromagnetism with general relativity is developed using GRAXI as a starting point. We develop a mathematical model describing electromagnetism coupled to a scalar field in an evolving axisymmetric spacetime. As there are numerous formulations of electromagnetism, we evalute different formulations in a limited flat space case. The full curved space system is then developed, using the flat case as a guide to implementing electromagnetism. This model is then implemented using GRAXI as a code base.

Electromagnetism For Mechatronics
- Turowski; Electromagnetism For Mechatronics
INTRODUCTION Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary body of ...knowledge that was developed, to a great extent, in mechanical engineering departments and other non-electrical departments, as well as in the more nonelectromagnetic university specialisations. It is considered as especially essential for the engineering environment of the next millennium [1]. In a paper by Rizzo et al., the definition adopted by the International Federation for the Theory of Machines and Mechanism (IFTMM) is presented. It states that ...Mechatronics is the synergistic combination of precision mechanical engineering, electronic control and systems thinking in the design of products and manufacturing processes [2]. As presented in...

Teaching Electromagnetism in Terms of Potentials Instead of Fields
Introduction
The teaching of electromagnetism has long been in question, for a variety of reasons, including
the pressure of material in undergraduate courses. One major factor is what is often seen to be
the lack of relevance of the traditional material to the needs of the modern engineer. Electrical
machines are given much less time than in the past, and the broadening range of interests in
communications likewise reduces the emphasis on electromagnetic fields. Yet electrical
engineering might well be defined as applied electromagnetism, and the need for some
understanding of the subject can hardly be in doubt. The question is the extent and nature of that
understanding...

Gravity And Electromagnetism In Noncommutative Geometry
- Giovanni Landi,Nguyen Ai Viet
We present a unified description of gravity and electromagnetism in the framework
of a Z 2 noncommutative differential calculus. It can be considered as a "discrete
version" of Kaluza-Klein theory, where the fifth continuous dimension is replaced
by two discrete points. We derive an action which coincides with the dimensionally
reduced one of the ordinary Kaluza-Klein theory.

Electromagnetism and Gravitation
- Kenneth Dalton
Modern experiment has shown that bulk matter exhibits quantum structure
and that this structure is electromagnetic in character. Therefore, we
treat the electromagnetic field as the source of gravitation. In this way, the
theory of gravitation becomes consistent with the quantum theory of matter,
which holds that electric charge (or `generalized charge') is the most
fundamental attribute of matter.
The following predictions of the theory may lie within reach of presentday
methods in astronomy:
(1) any massive body generates a time-dependent gravitational field;
(2) there is a linear correlation between the gravitational red-shift of a
stellar source and the energy of cosmic rays emitted by that source,
given by Delta =...

Some formulations coupling finite element and integral equation methods for Helmholtz equation and electromagnetism
this paper a study of the coupling between integral equations and
finite element methods is presented for two problems of propagation in frequency
domain. It is shown that these problems can be viewed as multidomain problems
and treated by the mean of the Schur complement technique. The complement
coming from the integral equation part is expressed with the integral operators of
the scattering theory. This allows to predict the behaviour of the Schur method,
either primal or dual, as far as its convergence speed is concerned. Furthermore,
the difference of behaviour between electromagnetism and acoustics from this
point of view is explained.

nce their inception, see, e.g., refs. [2] and refs. [4-6]. In the preface to the Dover edition of
his book [7] A. Barut writes (1979): "Electrodynamics and the classical theory of fields remain
very much alive and continue to be the source of inspiration for much of the modern research work
in new physical theories." And in the preface to the first edition he speaks of the shortcomings of
modern quantum field theory. These are well known. Furthermore, in spite of great expectations in
the sixties and seventies after the proposal of the Glashow-Salam-Weinberg model and quantum
chromodynamics, attempts to formulate a unified field theory based...

Histories Electromagnetism
- Burch, Aidan
Working within the HPO (History Projection Operator) Consistent Histories
formalism, we follow the work of Savvidou on (scalar) field theory and that of
Savvidou and Anastopolous on (first-class) constrained systems to write a
histories theory (both classical and quantum) of Electromagnetism. We focus
particularly on the foliation-dependence of the histories phase space/Hilbert
space and the action thereon of the two Poincare groups that arise in histories
field theory. We quantise in the spirit of the Dirac scheme for constrained
systems.
