Optic Neuropathies
- AAO/NANOS
This 28-year-old otherwise-healthy woman was referred to for treatment of what was thought to be optic neuritis OD. Three weeks earlier she had noted a dark inferior scotoma OD that progressed to involve fixation over the next 10-12 days. She experienced photopsias OD at the onset. She had no viral prodrome. In retrospect, she recalled a vague, dull, nonspecific right-sided orbital and forehead ache (not made worse by eye movement) at the onset. When first seen by an ophthalmologist, 1 week after her symptoms began, pertinent findings included 20/40-2 acuity OD, symmetrical color vision using Ishihara plates, equivocal afferent pupillary...

- Marcos, Susana; Artal, Pablo; Santamaría, Javier; Aguilar, Mariano; Plaza, Lorenzo

- Rojas H., A. G.; Renero Carrillo, F.; Calleja A., W.; Pérez R., R.

Isolated congenital optic disc anomalies
- AAO/NANOS
Benign tumors of blood vessels (hemangiomas) may occur on the optic nerve and may mimic optic disc edema.

Isolated congenital optic disc anomalies
- AAO/NANOS
This patient has optic disc drusen and evidence of a superimposed optic neuropathy, including loss of visual field, an ipsilateral afferent pupillary defect, and optic atrophy. Although optic disc drusen typically causes visual field loss without visual acuity loss superimposed, ischemic optic neuropathy may occur in patients with optic disc drusen. However, evaluation for alternative causes of an optic neuropathy should be considered in patients with optic disc drusen and visual acuity loss.

The Structure of the Optic Flow Field
- Mads Nielsen; Ole Fogh Olsen
. The optic flow field is defined as preserving the intensity along flow-lines. Due to singularities in the image at fixed time, poles are created in the optic flow field. In this paper we describe the generic types of flow singularities and their generic interaction over time. In a general analytic flow field, normally the topology is characterised by the points where the flow vanish again subdivided into repellers, attractors, whirls, and combinations hereof. We point out the resemblance, but also the important differences in the structure of a general analytic flow field, and the structure of the optic flow...

Local image structures and optic flow estimation
- S. Kalkan; D. Calow; F. Wörgötter
Different kinds of local image structures (such as homogeneous, edge-like and junction-like patches) can be distinguished by the intrinsic dimensionality of the local signals. Intrinsic dimensionality makes use of variance from a point and a line in spectral representation of the signal in order to classify it as homogeneous, edge-like or junction-like. The concept of intrinsic dimensionality has been mostly exercised using discrete formulations; however, recent work (Felsberg & Krüger 2003; Krüger & Felsberg 2003) has introduced a continuous definition. The current study analyzes the distribution of local patches in natural images according to this continuous understanding of intrinsic dimensionality....

- Cubillos, Claudio; Olivares, Ricardo
