The research work described in this thesis presents the synthesis, characterization and properties of a new family of trimetallic M3(μ3-S)(μ2-S)3 molybdenum and tungsten sulfide clusters. Functionalization of the cluster unit has been done by incorporating different chelating ligands such as diphosphines and heterodentate aminophosphines in order to confer specific physicochemical properties such as water solubility or catalytic activity. In particular, water soluble diphosphines and aminophosphines have been coordinated to the M3S4 unit in order to evaluate the potential applications of these new derivatives in environmentally friendly biphasic catalysis and homogenous organic catalysis, respectively. Lactide and trimethylene carbonate copolymers were successfully grafted with polyethylene glycol via previous functionalization with maleic anhydride and using N,N'-diisopropylcarbodiimide as condensing agent. Maleinization led to moderate polymer degradation. Specifically, the weight average molecular weight decreased from 36,200 to 30,200 g/mol for the copolymer having 20 mol% of trimethylene carbonate units. Copolymers were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry and X-ray diffraction. Morphology of spherulites and lamellar crystals was evaluated with optical and atomic force microscopies, respectively. En acuerdo con las características químicas y mineralógicas de la escoria de cobre, este residuo sólido industrial puede ser utilizado en el proceso de fabricación de clínker Portland como sustituto parcial de los minerales de sílice y hematita en la formación de mezclas crudas cuyos beneficios serían: disminución de los costos de producción de mezclas crudas y del consumo calorífico. The major aspects of wet air oxidation and catalytic wet air oxidation have been reviewed in this work paying special attention to the reaction mechanisms, kinetics and the industrial process. In the experimental section a set of heterogeneous catalysts have been tested in the wet oxidation of non-wood black liquor. The oxidation runs were performed batchwise in a laboratory-scale mechanically stirred slurry reactor for 1 h at a temperature of 170°C and total pressure of 12 bar.
