Tidal forces intensify tremor-and-slip events in Cascadia subduction zone These quakes, called episodic tremor-and-slip events, occur about every 14 months, last for two to three weeks and are apparently associated with movement along the Cascadia subduction zone. Researchers from the University of Washington and the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia in Italy have just published a paper reporting that these events are affected by the rise and fall of ocean tides.
