Enhanced degradation of metalaxyl in agricultural soils of São Paulo State, Brazil
- Papini,Solange; Andréa,Mara Mercedes de
This work investigated the effect of repeated applications on enhanced degradation of metalaxyl in two different agricultural soils used for cultivation of orange and lemon from Casa Branca and Itapetininga districts of São Paulo State, Brazil. Soil samples were collected from areas repeatedly treated with commercial ridomil 50GR for six successive years, and from other areas never exposed to this fungicide. At the laboratory, soil samples received a 14C-metalaxyl solution and its degradation was studied through radiometric techniques to measure biomineralization and recovery of extractable- and soil-bound products. Enhanced degradation was verified only in one soil, although partial degradation and...

Reduced sensitivity of Uncinula necator to sterol demethylation inhibiting fungicides in southern Australian vineyards
- Savocchia, S.; Stummer, Belinda E.; Wicks, Trevor J.; Van Heeswijck, Robyn; Scott, Eileen Sandra
Isolates of Uncinula necator with reduced sensitivity to triadimenol and, to a lesser extent, fenarimol have been detected in Australian vineyards. Grapevine leaves and berries affected by powdery mildew were collected from a home garden and 13 vineyards in nine viticultural regions in Australia between 1993 and 1998. Single-spore isolates of U. necator established from vines, either not exposed to DMIs (‘unexposed’ collection) or treated with DMIs (‘selected’ collection), were maintained on micropropagated grapevines in vitro. A bioassay for fungicide sensitivity was used to test 60 single-spore isolates of U. necator for sensitivity to triadimenol. Of these, 34 were tested...

The post-harvest maturity of papaya fruits is influenced by several environmental factors including temperature, light and ventilation of the surrounding wall. The maturity, presence and attacks or rots, and the accumulation of fungicide residues in the papaya was evaluated on papaya fruits treated with different fungicide. Thiabendazole-treated fruits did not rot 21 days after treatment and this fungicide was the most satisfactory with detected residues lower than the European Union's 2000/48/EC guideline.
Key Words: Post-harvest, papaya, fungicides, phytotoxic, thiabendazole, residues maximal limit.

The effect of fungicides on vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis. II. The effects on area of interface and efficiency of P uptake and transfer to plant
- Sukarno, N.; Smith, F. A.; Smith, S. E.; Scott, Eileen Sandra
Two experiments were conducted under controlled environmental conditions to determine the effects of the three fungicides, Benlate®. Aliette® and Ridomil®, on efficiency of P uptake from the soil and transfer across the living plant-fungal interface- of onion plants (Allium cepa L.) associated with Glomus sp. 'City Beach' (WUM 16), P applied to the soil did not apparently increase the rate of transfer (flux) of P to the plant via the fungal partner of the mytorrhiza. Benlate reduced P inflow and transfer across the interface in one of the experiments. The rate of P uptake per m living external hyphae was...
