This work describes the plan carried out at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the UNLP (Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de la UNLP) for a transition to a new virtual learning environment (VLE). The project involved an interface redesign and a migration of the undergraduate and graduate courses already installed in the former VLE. Several steps were followed: the Moodle program (version 2.7) installation on a server; its organization according to the career structure; the customization of the interface; the installation of a list of users taken from the official lists, and the transfer of the courses to the new...

  2. La revista Index de Neurología y Psiquiatría. 1938-1946: Los inicios neuropsiquiátricos de Pichon-Rivière

    Klappenbach, Hugo Alberto

    G. Zlotnik; Curitiba Paran\l=a'\ Brasil
Although sex reversal is fairly common in invertebrates, the presence of male characteristics with a female karyotype in mammals merits a detailed examination. Four goats of the Toggenburg strain belonging to the Department of Genetics of the Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas e Biologicas of Botucatu, Brasil, with a small vagina, an enlarged penis, a variable degree of labial fusion and a common opening of the urethra and vagina, were found to have a female karyotype. This was established from the chromosomal pattern of cultured leucocytes and sex chromatin studies of brain tissue cells. The same goats were reported to have...

  8. INDUCTION OF PROLACTIN AND LUTEINIZING HORMONE RELEASE BY HISTAMINE IN MALE AND FEMALE RATS AND THE INFLUENCE OF BRAIN TRANSMITTER ANTAGONISTS

    A. O. Donoso; Facultad De Ciencias Médicas
The levels of prolactin and LH in the plasma of rats were determined at various times after intraventricular injection of histamine. Doses of 5 and 60 \g=m\ghistamine (free base) in male rats, anaesthetized with ether, induced an increase in the level of prolactin in the plasma, whilst producing a slight decrease in the concentration of LH. Injection of 5 \g=m\ghistamine at 14.00 h into female rats at all stages of the oestrous cycle caused prolactin to be released; the effect was greatest at oestrus and at day 1 of dioestrus. Histamine also gave rise to a marked increase in the...

Factors associated with intimate partner violence against Brazilian women OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of physical and/or sexual violence by intimate partners and factors associated with this, in different sociocultural contexts. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was part of the “WHO Multi-country Study on Women’s Health and Domestic Violence against Women”. It consisted of representative samples of women from the municipality of São Paulo (Southeastern Brazil) and from the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco (Northeastern Brazil), this latter is a region with more traditional gender norms. Interviews were conducted in the homes of 940 women in São Paulo and 1,188 in...

  15. WNK3 abrogates the NEDD4-2-mediated inhibition of the renal Na-Cl

    Ciencias Médicas; Nutrición Salvador Zubirán
nine kinase WNK3 and the ubiquitin-protein ligase NEDD4-2 are key regulators of the thiazide-sensitive Na-Cl cotransporter (NCC), WNK3 as an activator and NEDD2-4 as an inhibitor. Nedd4-2 was identified as an interacting partner of WNK3 through a glutathione-S-transferase pull-down assay using the N-terminal domain of WNK3, combined with LC-MS/MS analysis. This was validated by coimmu-noprecipitation of WNK3 and NEDD4-2 expressed in HEK293 cells. Our data also revealed that the interaction between Nedd4-2 and WNK3 does not involve the PY-like motif found in WNK3. The level of WNK3 ubiquitylation did not change when NEDD4-2 was ex-pressed in HEK293 cells. Moreover, in...

alternative and complementary medicine: the pluralization of health services in the Brazilian Unifi ed Health System Social medicalization transforms people’s habits, discourages them from fi nding their own solutions to certain health problems and places an excess demand on the Unifi ed Health System. With regard to healthcare provision, an alternative to social medicalization is the pluralization of treatment provided by health institutions namely through the recognition and provision of alternative and complementary practices and medicines. The objective of the article was to analyze the potentials and diffi culties of alternative and complementary practices and medicines based on clinical and...
