How Knowledge Affects Payment to Conserve an Endangered Bird - Wilson, Clevo; Tisdell, Clem
The paper reports the findings of an experimental survey conducted to determine the public's willingness to pay (WTP) for the protection and conservation of the golden-shouldered parrot in Australia. This parrot is endemic to Australia and is one of Australia's most endangered birds. The paper examines the public's knowledge of this parrot and compares it with other endangered birds as well as common birds and the public's WTP for conservation from a hypothetical allocation of money based on their current knowledge. We then examine how this allocation changes with increased knowledge about all species.

How Liberalization of Trade in Services May Conserve Natural Resources - Nordasm H.K.
A three-sector model of trade and location where two sectors produce intermediate inputs to the third sector is constructed. One of the intermediate sectors is located in the South and produces a freely traded homogenous input, while the other produces a differentiated input which is traded subject to transport costs. The impact of declining transport costs is anlyzed. Multiple equilibria occur for reasonable parameter values, but none of the equilibria involves agglomeration.

The Use of Human Factors Simulation to Conserve Operations Expense - Hamilton, George S.; Dischinger, H. Charles, Jr.; Wu, Hsin-I.
In preparation for on-orbit operations, NASA performs experiments aboard a KC-135 which performs parabolic maneuvers, resulting in short periods of microgravity. While considerably less expensive than space operations, the use of this aircraft is costly. Simulation of tasks to be performed during the flight can allow the participants to optimize hardware configuration and crew interaction prior to flight. This presentation will demonstrate the utility of such simulation. The experiment simulated is the fluid dynamics of epoxy components which may be used in a patch kit in the event of meteoroid damage to the International Space Station. Improved configuration and operational...

Models, Tools and Approaches for Habitat Objectives to Conserve Biodiversity
The National Agri-environmental Standards Initiative (NAESI) is responsible for the development of performance standards for agricultural in the context of four themes: water, soil, air and biodiversity. As part of the work of the Biodiversity Thematic Group, the Biodiversity Standards Project aims to produce a suite of measurable standards
