  1. Desnaturalizando o dia a dia: : terceira idade e sociologia da vida cotidiana

Soares de Lemos, Carlos Eugênio; Rangel de Oliveira, Lidiane; Rabelo Matias, Glauber
The Course of Sociology of Everyday Life, offered by the University of Third Age UNITI, in the period May – July, 2010, aimed to stimulate the cognitive performance of elderly citizens and the expansion of their network of interactions, using sociological imagination to promote the reconceptualization of daily themes. The program consisted of educational workshops involving reports comparing the life history and study groups, from the perspective of methodological principles such as: history, denaturalization, the relationship between autobiography and context of the life course of the student. At the end of the experiment, it was noted that the participants, through questions of classes, were more open...

  2. A influência do biopoder na economia: o tempo livre vigiado e consumido

    Semeghini Pereira, Marcela Andressa

Ribeiro Silva, Elizabete Cristina; Brasil Fonseca, Alexandre; Jardim Reis, Ernani; Pereira, Fernanda
A atenção à proteção...

Abstract: This article aims to develop a literature review about studies and papers that focused on the issue of violence in schools, especially since the perceptions of high school students. While we do not intend to make an exhaustive survey; nevertheless in this paper we will explore tree of the main perspectives of the field. We expect to perform a critical path on the main lines of research. The first perspective to be developed is the one of criminology studies, in second place the studies focused at the Bullying perspective, and thirdly the studies of social-educational field. We worked with...

Femicide –the murder of women motivated by gendered prejudices– is an extreme expression of gender-based violence. This article explores how this type of crime is represented in three Chilean newspapers that have wide audiences. Theoretically, we assume that deep-seated cultural representations on romantic relationships, and how men and women ought to behave in these, are at the very roots of gender-based violence. Mass media can contribute to reinforce these representations or, on the contrary, to undermine them. We argue the newspapers we analyzed approach extreme gender violence in an ambivalent way: on the one hand, they condemn it, but at the same time they rely on stereotypical understandings...

    Ahedo Santisteban, Manuel
This article proposes a critical, comprehensive and transnational macrosociology of the international relations, as theoretical and methodological contribution to the knowledge of the international reality. The theoretical and methodological proposals are illustrated with an analysis of Spain’s external transition (1970-1989). Using existing relevant historiographic knowledge and few primary sources two interconnected social processes are analysed. First, the dependent homologation to the dominant European and western models, norms and standards, by looking at relations between collective actors, especially monarchy, political parties and unions. Second, the power-related bilateral relations in the incorporation of Spain to the European Union and NATO, by looking at Spain’s comprehensive and asymmetrical relations with the dominant western powerful...

    Kozlarek, Oliver
In this paper I try to defend the use of the concept "modernity" in historical sociology. But a the same time it pretends to redirect the research on modernity by paying more attention to the experiences that people in different parts of the world have made while submerged in the processes of modernization. If it is correct to say that we are all modern today, important question would how to define the differences. Answers can be found bringing to the fore the different experiences in and within global modernity.

    Preyer, Gerard
The article reconstructs the hard core of Shmuel N. Eisenstadt’s general sociology. This is his analysis of the relationship between agency (creativity) and structure and culture and social structure. Eisenstadt classifying these relationships within the “semantic map” as an evolutionary universal of the “constitutive basic frame of reference” of the research of socio-structural evolution. His claim is to apply this “frame of reference” to the analysis of “all societies”. This refers to 1. the existential problem of the definition of cosmological order und the relationship to the world, and 2. the generation of conflicts, and social tensions within the social exchange and the definition of the cosmological order and...

    Schwinn, Thomas
This article intends to analyze the extent of Max Weber´s theorie in the global context of our society. It searchs in it the tools to explain the social facts according to variations that include each social frame. It deals with a reflection on the limits of the social theories that depend on a universal logic of development. The aim would be to stress on Weber´s theory to criticize the universal models of classical theory of modernization and reconstruct the sociological research from the point of view of comparative methodology.

In this article I have joined three British social sciences —social anthropology, history and sociology—, or rather three methodological perspectives: the processualism of Victor W. Turner, the social history of E. P. Thompson and the theory of structuration of Anthony Giddens, in an attempt to engage in a discussion about a concept in common: the experience. I basically focus on two points: reflect on its definition, relevance and scope; and explain how and why recovers. Specifically, I seek not give a simple exposition of theoretical postulates of each of the authors but have a rapprochement between disciplines that promotes a...

  13. The complexity of non-sense making: a proposal of complex medical sociology of mental disorders.

    Torres Cubeiro, Manuel
The article describes social complexity of the biographical accounts of those connected with a mental disorder diagnosis in Galicia, a Northwest Spanish Autonomous Community. 147 biographies associated with Mental Disorders diagnosis (MD) have been collected and gathered in three groups differently linked to these conditions. Our first group has lived with a diagnosis of MD for at least 10 years (65 interviews and data from 300 people). Our second cluster of people shares their lives with those with a MD diagnosis mainly with a family relative bound (19 interviews and data from 300 families). Our third group, gathers Galician mental...

  14. Sociologia das Ausências e das Emergências na Análise Teórico-Epistemológica de uma Política Pública Participativa

    Ferrarini, Adriane Vieira
Participatory processes act on the immaterial dimensions of inequality and emancipation defined by the colonial imposition of Western thought. The sociology of absences and emergencies seeks to garner and confer legitimacy to forgotten or invisible knowledges and practices in the search for latent and decolonizing emancipatory alternatives. The article presents the use of this theoretical-epistemological reference in the analysis of a participatory policy. The results evidenced the unveiling of cognitive, political and cultural facets in the process and the result, less usual in policy analysis. The rupture with the hierarchy of knowledge, the recognition of the subjects through effective participation...

  15. O Imaginário como algo Inimaginável. A sociologia rez de chaussée de Roger Bastide

    Vasconcellos, Dora Vianna

This article seeks to update the “State of the Art” about the Sociology Education in the Brazilian postgraduation. The methodology was due through a survey on the site “Capes Thesis Bank” and on “repositories” and “Thesis and dissertation bank” from several superior education institutions, through the key words “Sociology education”, “Sociology in the education” and “Sociology in the school”. Among the results, it is emphasized that: i) there is a continuous growing of dissertations and thesis about the thematic after the year 2008; ii) the productions are still centralized in the South and Southeast Regions; iii) there is an amplification...

    Monsma, Karl
The predominant interpretations of racismo today are located within what I call the “colonial paradigm,” which is the idea that racism originated from the colonial expansion of Europe and the domination of Europeans over the peoples of the rest of the world. Several empirical cases of racial domination or genocide present challenges for this approach, especially the racialization of European peoples by other Europeans and racism practiced by non-European peoples. The article develops the argument that many such cases can be understood within an expanded version of the colonial paradigm, emphasizing the subordination of peoples of the European periphery, the...

  18. O Programa Institucional das Políticas de Educação Patrimonial no Brasil: um estudo em Sociologia da Educação

    Manoel Dias da Silva, Rodrigo
This article aims to identify and analyze the institutional program of heritage education policies in Brazil, with emphasis on their shifts and continuities. For this analytical project, inspired by recent studies in Sociology of Education, the author conducted a sociological review of the idea of institutional program in the modern social order, in order to understand their characteristics and map references for the analysis of contemporary politics. Next, we performed a literature review on the meanings of heritage education in the national education analytically interested in scrutinizing its genesis, its contemporary historical discussions and their inclusion in government programs.

Educational vulnerability in Latin America which results in students poor performance in cognitive tests, especially amongst those belonging to socioeconomically disadvantaged groups, is here analyzed. To this purpose, data from PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) is used, as well as previous studies conducted on PISA national outcomes. Essentially, we show the impact of socio-economic background of students on their learning achievements. Using evidence and knowledge accumulated by international sociological research, we define the factors that mostly affect negative school performance, with emphasis on early childhood education.
